Download Claude & Switch to Cowork Mode
Navigate to claude.ai/download to download the desktop version. Once installed, click the Cowork tab to switch from conversational chat to task mode.
Then create a dedicated folder:
Before you start delegating tasks, create a folder on your desktop called Claude. This is where all your files will live.
📁 Desktop/
└── 📁 Claude/
That's it for now. Claude will help you build everything else inside this folder.
Let Claude Build Your System
Claude Cowork will create your entire folder structure and files, then ask you questions to personalize everything.
Copy this entire prompt:
I want you to help me set up a Personal Operating System inside Claude. This system will help me start each day with a structured morning routine where you act as my executive assistant.
Please create the following folder structure and files:
FOLDER STRUCTURE:
Claude/
├── Context/
├── Inbox/
├── Outbox/
│ └── Daily/
└── Logs/
FILES TO CREATE:
1. CLAUDE.md - The brain of my system. This file should contain:
- My business overview
- Current goals and priorities
- Weekly focus areas
- Decision-making frameworks I use
- Daily operating rules for how you should help me
2. Context/profile.md - Who I am, what I do, my work style, and brand
voice
3. Context/projects.md - Current projects, status, and focus areas
4. Context/schedule.md - My weekly schedule, fixed commitments, and
availability
After you create the folder structure, ask me adaptive questions to fill in these
files with my actual business context. Ask about:
- What my business does and who I serve
- My current goals for this quarter
- My weekly schedule and work preferences
- What decisions I make most often
- What projects I'm working on right now
- How I want you to help me each morning
What happens next:
- Claude creates the folder structure as text/markdown
- Claude asks you personalized questions about your business
- You answer conversationally (no formatting needed)
- Claude generates all four files with your answers
- You copy the content and save it to your Claude/ folder
Start Your Day
Once Claude Cowork has created your files, you're ready to use your Operating System.
How to use it every morning:
- Select your working folder (Claude folder) in Claude Cowork
- Say: "Read CLAUDE.md and start my day"
- Claude Cowork will read your context, check your priorities, and create a structured plan for your day
That's it. Claude Cowork automatically reads your files, understands your context, and helps you plan your day in 5 minutes.

CLAUDE.md - The Brain
This is the most important file. It contains your business overview, current goals, weekly priorities, and the rules for how Claude should help you each day. Claude reads this first every morning.
Context/profile.md - Who You Are
Your role, business type, work style, brand voice, and key values. This helps Claude write in your voice and make decisions aligned with your preferences.
Context/projects.md - What You're Working On
Active projects, their status, timelines, and blockers. Claude uses this to prioritize tasks and suggest what to work on.
Context/schedule.md - Your Weekly Rhythm
Fixed commitments, blackout times, and availability windows. Claude Cowork won't suggest deep work during your meeting blocks or interrupt during protected time.
Inbox/ - Drop Zone
Dump rough ideas, notes, voice memos here. Claude Cowork organizes them later. Think of it as your capture tool.
Outbox/Daily/ - Finished Work
Claude Cowork puts completed work here: drafted emails, content pieces, plans. Everything ready to review or publish.
Logs/ - Daily Summaries
Automatic daily summaries of what you accomplished. Helps with continuity between days and weekly reviews.
Your Daily Workflow

Always say "don't delete anything" unless you specifically want deletions. Claude Cowork requires explicit permission before permanent file deletion, but stating it upfront prevents confusion.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Claude Cowork isn't reading my CLAUDE.md file correctly
Make sure you've selected your working folder (Claude folder) and say "Read CLAUDE.md first" to ensure Claude Cowork processes it before responding.
Files aren't appearing in my Outbox/ folder
Claude Cowork will automatically create and save files to your working folder. Make sure you've given it access to the correct Claude/ folder on your computer.
Claude Cowork is giving generic suggestions, not personalized ones
Update your Context files with more specific details about your brand voice, preferences, and work style. The more detail you provide, the better Claude Cowork can personalize responses.
I'm hitting usage limits too quickly
Use regular Claude chat for simple questions. Reserve Claude Cowork for complex, multi-step work. Batch related tasks together instead of running them separately.
How often should I update my context files?
Update CLAUDE.md weekly with new priorities. Update Context files monthly or when things change significantly. Your schedule.md should be updated whenever your routine changes.
